Ingredients:
3 lb Flanken Short Ribs
1 bunch green onions, sliced
1 cup soy sauce
1 cup dark brown sugar
1 cup apple sauce
5 TBSP rice wine vinegar
1 large root of ginger, peeled and finely chopped (about 5 TBSP)
7 cloves of garlic, chopped
1/2 cup toasted sesame oil
5 TSP toasted sesame seeds
2 cups basmati rice, prepared and hot (or use Jasmine or any other rice you like!)
Marinade:
In a large bowl, combine 1 cup soy sauce, 1 cup dark brown sugar, 1 cup applesauce, 5 TBSP rice wine vinegar, chopped ginger root, chopped garlic, sesame oil and toasted sesame seeds. Stir until well blended. (If you cannot find toasted sesame seeds, buy regular and place them in a hot, dry pan, stirring constantly over medium high heat until they are toasty. )
Remove half of the completed mixture and place in a covered dish in the refrigerator until later. (You will heat this and serve as extra sauce on the side)
Keep the other half in the large bowl and add the raw Flanken short ribs. Flip them all around and coat all sides of all the meat. Cover dish and refrigerate about 4 hours. Check them after 2 hours and move the meat around to mae sure all sides are covered.
After 4 hours, Place on a preheated, hot grill. (you can weve a skewer through them for easier control on the grill) Grill approximately 3-5 minutes per side, depending on the thickness of your meat. Flip and grill other side until internal temp of the meat is 145°F-155°F. (If you used a skewer, remove before serving)
Remove from grill and serve sizzling hot with rice. Heat the extra sauce you put aside and drizzle it over your rice with the meat on top.
