Toffee

This is one of my favorite things to give away during the holiday season! This toffee is absolutely delicious. It is so much easier to make than most people think! Make sure the pot is large since there is a lot of high boiling to the process! Too small of a pot will create a very messy boil-over you don't want! #sonomnom4u #Toffee #vegetarian

2 cup sugar

2 cup butter (Use only real butter!!)

1 bag of semi sweet or milk shocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional) (any nut is delicious or keep them nut-free!)

Line a large baking pan with wax paper. Set aside.

In a large saucepan, heat 2 cups of sugar and 2 cups of butter, stirring often, until the temperature of the mixture reaches 300°F on candy thermometer. Remove from heat.

Pour mixture onto wax paper lined baking sheet, using a rubber scraper to spread it evenly. Work quickly. Pour chocolate chips all over the top and spread them with the rubber scraper. Chocolate chips will melt immediately as they touch the hot toffee. When all chips are spread and the entire top of the toffee is covered, sprinkle chopped nuts all over the top of the chocolate. Let cool completely.

After toffee is cool, take a butter knife and stab at various points of the toffee to break into chunks. Store toffee in glass jars away from heat in a somewhat cool area.
