These are a delicious family fave! Don't waste your time on dehydrated box potatoes--make them from scratch! All real, all delicious! Change the taste of the dish each time by changing the cheese you use! Cheddar, mozzarella, parmesan, fontina, gruyere, and sharp white cheddar are all cheese I have tried in this dish! If you plan ahead for this dish, it's really simple! Make sure you set aside at least 1 hour to bake this. Times vary based on thickness of potato slices and ovens. Mandolines or food processors simplify the preparation! #PotatoesAugratin #AuGratinPotatoes #Sonomnom4u #SoNomNom

Melt 4 TBSP butter and pour it into a 13"x9" baking dish.
Form a layer of potatoes onto the melted butter on the bottom of the baking dish.
Fill the entire bottom of the dish, overlapping each potato a bit as you work your way around the entire area of the dish.
Freshly grind or sprinkle a quick dash of salt and pepper over the layer of potatoes. Add 1/4 cup of chosen cheese/cheeses and spread evenly over the potatoes.
Pour 1/4 cup heavy cream all over the entire top of that layer.
Layer another layer of potatoes onto the cheese, overlapping each potato a bit as you work your way around the entire area of the dish.
Freshly grind or sprinkle a quick dash of salt and pepper over the layer of potatoes.
Add 1/4 cup of chosen cheese/cheeses and spread evenly over the potatoes.
Pour 1/4 cup heavy cream all over the entire top of that layer.
Repeat this process 2 more times, until 2 have about 4 rows or your baking dish is full. The last layer will be cheese then cream poured over it.
Cover dish with foil and bake for approximately 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake 15-30 minutes more. Actual time will vary based on thicckness of potatoes, amount of layers, and oven types.
This dish goes great with Italian Scacciata and Steamed Asparagus with Butter Drizzle. It really goes well with anything you want, though!
