Green Eggs and Ham

Updated: Nov 28, 2022

We don't enjoy Corned Beef & Cabbage in this house. It is what it is. To each their own. For those who want to be festive, but without the traditional Corned Beef, Green Eggs and Ham is quite entertaining, fun and green! Sam I am Agrees. Don't knock it until you try it. This is a fun meal for Dr. Suess' Birthday and St. Patricks Day! #sonomnom4u #drsuess #drsuessday #greeneggsandham #recipes

Scrambled Egg Ingredients:

10 drops of green food dye

4 TBSP milk, half and half or heavy cream

6 eggs

Ham Ingredients:

Boneless ham, but into 1" steaks

1/4 cup water

1 TBSP oil

10 drops green food dye

Ham Prep Directions:

In a small bowl, combine 1/4 cup water and food dye. stire until well blended. Add oil and whisk in. It won't mix completely but that is o.k.! Take a basting brush and baste both sides of each ham steak with the green coloring. When all sides are basted and the ham is looking green, set aside until ready to cook.

Egg Directions:

In a medium bowl, crack 6 eggs. Discard shells. Add milk (or heavy cream of half and half) and add food dye. Whisk until eggs are colored green and full of bubbles. The more you whisk, the fluffier your finished scrambled eggs will be. Add more dye if necessary for a brighter green.

Heat a medium non-stick skillet on medium heat until hot. Check first. If a drop of water sizzles, it is hot enough to add the eggs. Add eggs and stir regularly with a rubber spatula scraping edges a eggs good. Try not to brown the eggs. The secret to a fluffy scrambled egg is constant motiona and no browning! When the egg is no longer wet, dump them into a serving bowl and serve hot with green ham.

Ham Cooking Directions:

In a medium, non-stick skillet, melt 4 TBSP butter.

When butter is hot, but not burning, add each ham steak. Cook about 2 minutes per side, until browned. The green food dye should still be present, but may lighten a bit. After both sides are browned and the steak is heated all the way through, serve hot with green eggs.

This meal goes great with Perfect Hashbrowns!
