Buttermilk Biscuits

These melt in your mouth and are amazing smothered with country sausage gravy, or eat with fresh blackberry jam, or even alone! This will quickly become your favorite go-to biscuit recipe! #sonomnom4u #buttermilkbiscuits #vegetarian


2 cups bread/pizza flour (+ more for rolling)

1 TBSP baking powder

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp baking soda

2 TBSP granulated sugar

1/4 cup butter (+3 TBSP for brushing)

1 cup cold buttermilk

2 TBSP mayonnaise


Preheat oven to 425°F


Sift the following ingredients together over a large bowl: flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, and sugar.


Cut in 1/4 cup butter until flour contains a mix of small butter pellats all throughout. add buttermilk and mix until dough is sticky. Pour sticky dough onto a well-floured work area and flip dough to coat boath sides with flour. Don't overflour! Keep dough as sticky as you can. This is the secret to a perfect biscuit!


Roll dough out to 1" thick. and cut biscuits using a large glass, a biscuit cutter, or an extra-wide mason jar lid ring. Go straight down with cutter. Do not twist or turn. Cut straight down and up. Place side by side, touching on a baking stone, iron skillet or a baking pan. Brush each top slightly with mayonnaise on a basting brush.


Bake about 13-16 minutes or until golden. Remove from heat, brush the top of each biscuit with with melted butter.

Serve fresh!
