Croutons

Updated: Sep 26, 2020

Why buy croutons when it is so easy to make your own? They store well in zipper bags or lidded containers in the pantry. Season them any way you like! The recipe below is for a classic seasoned crouton, but you can do BBQ, Cajun, Ranch, Southwest--any flavor theme you want! This classic flavor goes great in our Country Salad! #sonomnom4u #Croutons #vegetarian

Croutons

1 loaf of bread (any is fine!) (I like homemade french so they remain as real as possible)

1/4 cup Olive oil (EV or light is fine!)

2 TBSP dry basil

2 TBSP dry thyme

2 TBSP dry parsley

2 TBSP onion powder

2TBSP garlic powder

2 TBSP sea salt

1 TBSP black pepper (freshly cracked is always best)

1/4 cup powder parmesan cheese

Preheat oven to 450° F

Cut the entire loaf of bread up into 1/2" cubes.

Pour cubes into a large bowl. Coat them with olive oil by drizzling and tossing and drizzling until all oil is mixed thoroughly into the bread cubes.

Mix all the spices and cheese in a small bowl. Stir them up completely and sprinkle to coat, them toss the cubes, and sprinkle more, repeating until all cubes are seasoned.

Pour coated bread cubes on a parchment lined baking sheet. Make sure they are in a single layer.

Bake about 10 minutes, stir and bake an additional 10 minutes.

Check croutons often--all ovens vary.

Croutons are done when they are crunchy.

Pour onto butcher paper or paper towels to cool

Store/serve after the croutons are completely cooled.
